1 in 10 Children in the UK don’t own a book – Why bedtime stories matter & how you can help
Did you know that 1 in 10 children in the UK don’t own a single book? That’s thousands of children missing out on the magic of bedtime stories—the moments that spark imagination, build confidence, and create lifelong readers.
At Bloomsbury Mill, we believe that every child deserves a cosy bedtime routine, complete with a comforting story and a snug, inviting bed. That’s why we’re proud to support the Children’s Book Project, an incredible initiative that has already donated over 1 million books to children who might not otherwise have access to them.
What Is the Children’s Book Project?
The Children’s Book Project works to tackle book poverty by redistributing pre-loved books to children who need them most. They’ve already helped over 250,000 children through partnerships with 500 primary schools, ensuring that every child has the chance to fall in love with reading.
And it’s not just about literacy—their work has a positive environmental impact too! By rehoming gently used books, they’ve saved approximately 200 tonnes of books from landfill, giving them a second life in the hands of eager young readers.
